In the period 2003 to 2012/13, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam will undergo the most sweeping alteration endeavour in its history. During these years the museum will be featuring the major works from the Golden Age, entitled 'The Masterpieces'.

The Rijksmuseum is open every day from 9:00 to 18:00, on Fridays also from 18:00 to 22:00. Closed 1 January

A visit to the Van Gogh Museum is a unique experience. The museum contains the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world. It provides the opportunity to keep track of the artist's developments, or compare his paintings to works by other artists from the 19th century in the collection. The museum also holds an extensive offer of exhibitions on various subjects from 19th century art history.

The Van Gogh Museum is open daily from 10.00 to 18.00 (closed 1 January). On Friday evenings, it is open until 22.00.
